Abstract
Communication has a strong relationship with the head nurses’ leadership, even it can be said that there is no head nurse without communicating with their nurses. There are three types of communication styles, namely passive style, aggressive style, and assertive style. Three variations of communication style can used depend on situation. The ability of communicating will determining the success of the role of head nurses to influence their nurses. The problem appear when misunderstanding of information because sometimes nurses didn’t give feedback.
The aim of study was to analysis the relationship between head nurses’ communication style with nurses performance at inpatient care unit. Study design used correlation design with cross sectional approach. This study conducted at inpatient care unitof RSUD Dr. H. Moch. Ansari Saleh Banjarmasin at November 2017-May 2018. Sample was taken by proportionatestratified random samplingandsimple random sampling, there were 133 nurses and 133 nursing care report. Spearman Rank Test used to analysis the correlation.
The result found that there was strong relationship between head nurses’ communication style with nurses performance at inpatient care unit, obtained of Ïvalue 0,000 (<0,05) and Correlation CoefficientSpearman Rank value 0,791.
The head nurses whose implementing assertive communication style will stated clearly and firmly every purpose and activity which related to improving nurse performance, however their convey openly, accept compromise and constructive criticism.
